Waste Types

ORDINARY WASTE
Waste that is generated during the course of daily living or business. This waste can include food waste, household waste, construction/demolition waste, and yard waste. This waste simply goes into the landfill. These waste types are compacted and covered with each shelf and are a major part in the generation of the Landfill Gas.

RECYCLABLE WASTE
Waste that can be repurposed for another use. These include metal, electronics, wood, and tires. The Ada County Landfill has a newly founded Recycling Center. At the recycling center customers are able to leave their metal and electronics. Just a little further into the landfill lays the wood recycling area. Tires are taken off-site by a contractor and are repurposed.

HAZARDOUS WASTE
Any substance that is flammable, combustible, corrosive, explosive, reactive or toxic. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is set up to accept hazardous waste from Ada County Residents and small quantity business generators. Ada County residents also have the option to leave their hazardous materials with the mobile collection sites. Whether it is the Household Hazardous Waste Facility or the mobile collection sites the disposal of household hazardous waste is free for Ada County residents. Small quantity generators, businesses producing less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste and 2.2 pounds of acutely hazardous waste per month, are able to use the Household Hazardous Waste Facility for a nominal fee.

How do I dispose of it?

Each type of waste requires a different mode to dispose of it. Ordinary Waste is refuse that simply goes into the landfill. Ordinary Waste is an important part of the fundamental function of the landfill. Ada County maintains a Landfill-Gas to Energy program that utilizes landfill gas to function. The waste that is in the landfill generates landfill gas the Ada County Landfill sells the gas for energy consumption.
