Volunteers have a variety of opportunities within the Sheriff’s Office. These include everything from administrative duties, such as filing and office projects, to community events and assisting commissioned deputies with policing activities.

Anyone who has the desire to contribute to the quality of life in the community can apply. Applicants must meet established minimum standards for volunteers including:

• No felony convictions
• No misdemeanor convictions for domestic battery, child abuse, stalking or peeping tom
• No DUI convictions or driver’s license suspensions in the past 3 years
• Not currently under the jurisdiction of the court
• No illegal drug use in the last 3 years (recovering addicts and alcoholics must have 3 years of established sobriety)
• No dishonorable discharges

The easiest and fastest way to get started is to complete our online application. After you fill out the application, the volunteer coordinator will contact you to coordinate:

• An in-person interview
• A criminal history and a background check
• A polygraph examination

Greenbelt Patrol
Provide a friendly and reassuring presence on the greenbelt to promote a safe and secure environment for greenbelt users in Eagle and East Ada County.

Alarm Reinforcement
Track false alarms, identify clients who have surpassed the allowed number, notify them of the fine and follow up to make sure the fines have been paid.

Armory Assistant
Clean and inspect firearms, and check out ammunition and weapons to deputies at the range.

Quartermaster Assistant
Restock gear and uniforms, organize current clothing inventory, and distribute uniforms to employees.

Fleet Maintenance
Assist mechanics with repairs and maintenance, shuttle police cars, organize parts, create a disposal list, and contact other law enforcement agencies to see if they can utilize auto parts no longer being used by the ACSO.

Special Events
Assist deputies at special events such as Eagle Fun Days, Bike Rodeos and National Night Out, or participate in training scenarios, shuttle cars to Emergency Vehicles Operations, set up cones at the practice track, etc.

Office Assistants
Track orders and inventory, acquire quotes, research products to purchase, enter data and conduct other general office tasks as needed.

Misdemeanor Probation Assistant
Answer phones, reschedule appointments, enter data, file and conduct other office assistant duties as needed.

Pre-trial Assistant
Notify clients of their court dates, track inventory, log drug testing results, install TAD devices and conduct other case management tasks as needed.

Reentry Dorm Facilitation
Share your expertise with inmates in subjects like budgeting and finance, life skills, parenting and workforce readiness.  The reentry dorm is a specialized housing unit designed to help inmate clients develop the tools and skills they need to become successful and productive members of society.

Health Services
Support health care for inmates in the Ada County Jail – doctors, nurses and social workers are needed!

Victim Services Support
Compile information packets for victim services.  This task can be done at your home!

Community Information
Assist the Community Information Unit with shooting and editing videos, graphic design or writing projects.

Technical Writer
Work with Police Services and Records to update their standard operating procedures.

Update Jail Management System Reports
Organize and clean-up electronic reports utilized by the Jail Management System.

Training Session Host/Hostess
Set up refreshments and make coffee, ensure the instructor has everything he/she needs and check in participants as they arrive prior to the training session (must arrive at 6:30 am).  Clean up the refreshment area at the end of the session.

Planning and Project Coordinator
Help with a variety of tasks such as tracking orders, acquiring quotes, researching potential products to purchase, customer service, tracking inventory and data entry.

Commissary Assistant
Sell and deliver products from the commissary to inmates, and inventory products.  The commissary is open Monday through Thursday from 4 AM -2 PM so you must be willing to work within this time frame.

Warehouse Assistant
Help accept freight and track inventory in the warehouse.  Individuals who have experience with a forklift possibly will use a pallet jack to move inventory.

Culinary Arts instructor
Help train inmates working in the kitchen to complete certification which will help them gain employment after release.  Inmates will learn how to use a grill, dishwasher, prep food, how to handle food safely and properly, etc.

Sewing and Laundry Supervisor
Help supervise inmates working in the sewing room and the laundry room.

Marine Patrol
The marine patrol unit contacts boaters daily to enforce state boating laws and conducts boat inspections.  This volunteer would assist the marine deputies with these duties.  This position can be done any day of the week and can be done year round.
