Alternative Sentencing

The Court Services Bureau mission is to enhance our community through education, accountability, and dedicated service.

The Alternative Sentencing Program provides dedicated service to our community by giving participants the opportunity to pay their debt to society while cleaning up Ada County, remaining employed, and serving at a variety of non-profit organizations. Alternative Sentencing provides relief for the taxpayers of Ada County by reducing jail costs — and by giving participants the opportunity to repay the community while working and supporting their families.

Placement in the Alternative Sentencing Program is at the discretion of the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

General Criteria:

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Participants can not have active arrest warrants.
  • Participants must agree to follow all rules of the program.
  • Participants must be court-ordered to “Options” or a specific Alternative Sentencing program.
  • Participants can not have any pending criminal cases.
  • People are not eligible if they have been removed from an alternative sentencing program during the previous six months.

Participants are required to meet with their case manager to sign up for their options – and can prepare by completing an application and bringing it to their initial appointment.
