In 2003, the City of Star began contracting for law enforcement services with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.
There are four sheriff’s deputies assigned solely to patrolling and protecting Star. This means the deputies are familiar with the community’s people and unique issues. These Star officers can call on fellow deputies from the Sheriff’s Office for help when needed.
The partnership between Star and the Ada County Sheriff’s Office means Star has access to all of the county’s law enforcement resources without the administrative costs of running an independent police department.
ACSO Sergeant Jake Vogt was named Chief of Police in Star in 2016, taking over for retired Sgt. John Laraway.
Vogt began his career at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office in 1998 as a detention deputy in the Ada County Jail. He later moved from the jail to patrol and worked several jobs there, including stints as a member of the ACTION team and as a patrol sergeant before taking the top post in Star.
Chief Vogt is committed to continuing the successful partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and the City of Star.
Chief Vogt enjoys hearing from members of the community, so stop by the Star Police station and say “hello”!
