Save yourself some time!
Visit us during less busy times and you’ll have a shorter wait. It’s generally less busy before noon, and the shortest wait times are usually on Wednesday and Thursday.
You can also schedule an appointment — and avoid the line. Visit the appointment calendar, see what days and times are open, and set it up. Please note that all scheduled appointments have a 10-minute grace period. If you don’t check in during that time period, your appointment will be canceled.
Idaho Star Card
Beginning October 1, 2020, you will need to have a license or Identification (ID) card with the Star or another accepted form of identification, such as a passport, to fly commercially within the United States or access a federal facility, national laboratory, or military base.
Check out this step-by-step list on how to get a Star Card. Here is the documents checklist needed for applying or renewing your driver’s license/Star Card. (The short version is you need documents to prove who you are, including what your legal name is; you social security number; and proof of Idaho residency).
The Star Card doesn’t cost anymore than a regular Idaho Driver’s License and will allow you access to more places, so we encourage everyone to get one when it’s time to renew.
What do I need to bring to get a driver’s permit?
- Social security number
- Certified birth certificate (original document)
- Verification of school enrollment letter
- Acceptable photo identification: school-issued activity card, yearbook, passport or military ID
- A birth parent or legal guardian must accompany the applicant
The Idaho Department of Transportation Driver’s License Fact Sheet should answer every question you have about the process, including the list of fees. After successfully completing the application process, you will be issued a temporary driver’s license.
Your official license will be mailed to your home address 2-to-3 weeks later.
Note: Children are not permitted in the testing area. If you need to take one of the written or computer tests, please make other arrangements. Supervised children are permitted in the lobby area.
